A/C Blower System Repairs

Sunday, July 13th, 2014

Your air conditioner blows cool air into your home from the indoor unit, where the evaporator and blower are stored. When there are problems going on with your blower, you can experience significant decreases in air flow, warm air, or even system failure. As we head into the hot Phoenix AZ summers, which happens to be the busiest time of year for HVAC contractors, there are a few common problems in regard to your system’s blower that we see a lot of while performing a/c repairs in Phoenix.

Fan Problems

The blower in your unit is a fan that blows the cooled air into your duct system. The fan has its own motor that is wired into the system. There are a few common problems that can happen with fans, including your blower:

Bent, loose or broken fan blades
Worn-out or broken fan belts
Motor issues, such as overheating
Wiring issues, including shorts, frays, corrosion and disconnections

Any one of the above can affect how the fan functions, from turning slowly to not turning at all. All of them will affect the air flow in your system, which can lead to other problems, so an issue with the blower shouldn’t be ignored.

Fan repairs can be challenging, particularly if the problem involves the wiring, so it’s best to call your Alaskan Home Services expert to inspect and repair any fan issues you may be experiencing.

Dirty Evaporator Coils

Like the outdoor unit, the indoor unit of your air conditioner contains coils that help circulate the refrigerant in your system. These coils can collect a lot of dust and dirt, and when this debris isn’t removed, they form a layer that acts as an insulator. If the coils become insulated, the heat release and cooling process won’t work as it should and icing can occur.

As long as the refrigerant level is normal, the repair for this involves giving the coils a thorough cleaning, which should always be done by an air conditioning specialist.

Identify Potential Blower Issues with Consistent Maintenance

Scheduling bi-annual maintenance in spring and fall is the best way to catch these kinds of problems before they have the chance to grow into bigger ones. Why? During an Alaskan Home Services maintenance call, we’ll inspect your entire system, check the wiring and components, and clean the coils, fans and condensate drain.

Have you scheduled maintenance for your air conditioning system yet? Don’t put it off until next year. Contact Cool Touch Air Conditioning and Heating today and help yourself avoid AC repair in Phoenix.

Watch Out for these Air Conditioning Nightmares

Monday, June 16th, 2014

Living in Phoenix AZ has many luxuries. We get seven months of really awesome weather which makes up for the other five months of really intense heat. In Phoenix we have all major sports teams, all the big concerts, beautiful lakes and mountains, and if you want to ski in the winter you can drive two hours north and get radical, and when you’re done, you can drive back down to the valley back into seventy degree temps. The valley of the sun also offers some of the best fine dining in the country and we’re becoming more well known for our micro brews and wine.

Having many luxuries in our large city can also have it’s negatives. As mentioned above, our summers are brutal with temps reaching as high as 115 degrees. With so many people living out here and so many HVAC contractors to choose from, sometimes it’s a bit overwhelming to choose the most qualified and most honest and trustworthy.

Making sure our air conditioning units are running efficiently before the summer heat get’s here is very important. Having an a/c unit breakdown in the middle of 115 degree heat is no fun at all. You can put your family and pets in a lot of danger if your home does not having cool air flowing through it during these hot summer days. That’s why it’s so important to research the local air conditioning repair and installation companies in your town. Here’s at Cool Touch we have a perfect rating with the Phoenix Better Business Bureau and a perfect rating with YELP. Yelp is a very popular website that people use to check out the local services in their cities. You can get reviews from people who have used your services and usually if you come across a company profile like ours, you’re more than likely to call and use our services.

Back in May 2014 (this year), a woman in Florida needed to have an air conditioning repair technician come out to her home for what was supposed to be a quick fix of her stuck thermostat. When the a/c tech got to her home he tried to pull a fast one. Just because this was in Florida does not mean that Phoenix Arizona does not have these types of con artists. You need to do your due diligence and select only the local HVAC contractors that have good track records, even if that means paying a little more. Get it done right the first time and protect yourself from being swindled out of thousands of dollars.

Remember, sometimes you may pay more for a service call, but usually if the company has a solid history, you’re not going to pay much more than the service call fee or for service work that may need to be done. I’d rather pay for those things than get hosed out of a few hundred or even thousands of dollars for equipment that I never even needed in the first place.
