End the Winter Season with AC Tune-Up

Monday, March 4th, 2019

ac-repairWe’re not far from the end of winter. And while that doesn’t quite mean the spring season will start with blazing summer heat, what it does mean is that there’s plenty of time between now and summer. In other words, plenty of time to schedule an AC tune-up in Phoenix.

Regularly scheduled maintenance is always a good idea, as it will extend the lifespan of your HVAC system and keep it running efficiently. But is it really a good idea to get it so early? Ending your winter with an early AC tune-up is good for more than a few reasons, which we’ll get into down below:

3 Problems That a Maintenance Plan Solves

Monday, November 12th, 2018

service-timeHere’s how most homeowners handle maintenance:

They install a new HVAC system. If it’s installed by a pro, it runs without issue for a few years. This instills the belief that maintenance is not necessary. They opt to let the system get away with running as long as it possibly can—which is to say, until it falls into disrepair. They pay a repair fee, have the system fixed, and the cycle repeats.

As you can see, maintenance never appears in that equation! And here’s why that’s a problem:

Extend the life of your A/C Unit with Preventative Maintenance

Many people do not understand just how important  regular A/C unit maintenance is, to extend the life of your HVAC unit.  This type of service is known in the air conditioning industry as Preventative Maintenance.  If you ask any HVAC Technician or Air Conditioner Repairman in Phoenix Az about the importance of preventative a/c unit maintenance, they will likely share that it is extremely important to the overall health and efficiency of your air conditioner.  That’s because it is true!  An air conditioner that has annual preventative maintenance and seasonal HVAC tune ups will have a longer life expectancy, nearly double that of a unit that is not maintained.  Did you catch that?  You can extend the life of your HVAC unit, condenser, compressor and all the moving parts that make your air conditioner work, by simply having regular preventative maintenance completed.

What is included in a HVAC Unit Maintenance Service Call?  At Cool Touch our technicians are thoroughly trained to follow the industry standards to ensure that your A/C unit is functioning properly, is running efficiently and is mechanically sound. The HVAC Repairman (Cool Touch Technician)  will complete a detailed inspection that includes the following services: (Recommended Twice Per Year)  – Check electrical connections, Check safety controls, Check thermostat calibration, Check fan blade tightness, Lubricate fan motor, Measure amp draw, Check air flow. (For Summer) – Clean condenser, Check evaporator coil, Check refrigerant lines, Check “Start” and “Run” capacitors, Check “Start” and “Run” relays, Check refrigerant level, Check condensate drain. (For Winter) – Check burners, Carbon monoxide check, Check for proper venting, Check manifold pressure, Check service valves, Check heat exchanger/chamber and more.

As you can see, quite a lot is involved in the HVAC unit preventative maintenance.  After this inspection is completed, you will know that your A/C unit is ready to tackle the hot summer months and your heating furnace is prepared for the chilly winter season.  In the Arizona Valley of the Sun, we see a wide range of temperatures throughout the year.  So, be prepared.   A cool comfortable home is a happy home.

A/C Blower System Repairs

Sunday, July 13th, 2014

Your air conditioner blows cool air into your home from the indoor unit, where the evaporator and blower are stored. When there are problems going on with your blower, you can experience significant decreases in air flow, warm air, or even system failure. As we head into the hot Phoenix AZ summers, which happens to be the busiest time of year for HVAC contractors, there are a few common problems in regard to your system’s blower that we see a lot of while performing a/c repairs in Phoenix.

Fan Problems

The blower in your unit is a fan that blows the cooled air into your duct system. The fan has its own motor that is wired into the system. There are a few common problems that can happen with fans, including your blower:

Bent, loose or broken fan blades
Worn-out or broken fan belts
Motor issues, such as overheating
Wiring issues, including shorts, frays, corrosion and disconnections

Any one of the above can affect how the fan functions, from turning slowly to not turning at all. All of them will affect the air flow in your system, which can lead to other problems, so an issue with the blower shouldn’t be ignored.

Fan repairs can be challenging, particularly if the problem involves the wiring, so it’s best to call your Alaskan Home Services expert to inspect and repair any fan issues you may be experiencing.

Dirty Evaporator Coils

Like the outdoor unit, the indoor unit of your air conditioner contains coils that help circulate the refrigerant in your system. These coils can collect a lot of dust and dirt, and when this debris isn’t removed, they form a layer that acts as an insulator. If the coils become insulated, the heat release and cooling process won’t work as it should and icing can occur.

As long as the refrigerant level is normal, the repair for this involves giving the coils a thorough cleaning, which should always be done by an air conditioning specialist.

Identify Potential Blower Issues with Consistent Maintenance

Scheduling bi-annual maintenance in spring and fall is the best way to catch these kinds of problems before they have the chance to grow into bigger ones. Why? During an Alaskan Home Services maintenance call, we’ll inspect your entire system, check the wiring and components, and clean the coils, fans and condensate drain.

Have you scheduled maintenance for your air conditioning system yet? Don’t put it off until next year. Contact Cool Touch Air Conditioning and Heating today and help yourself avoid AC repair in Phoenix.

Air Conditioning Tune Ups in Phoenix Will Save You Money

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

Being a Phoenix AZ homeowner, you may be wondering how to save money on energy costs while enjoying a cool, comfortable indoor environment. One of the most cost effective ways to enjoy a cool home is to schedule an air conditioning tune-up to ensure that your air conditioning unit is operating at its peak level of performance.

Our air conditioning expert technicians perform the best tune-ups so that you can enjoy affordable and cool comfort in your home. Our tune-up services begin with a complete system inspection to check for worn electrical connections, proper refrigerant level and blockages in the condensate line. We clean and lubricate all mechanical parts, remove debris and replace the system’s air filter. The tune-up also includes a system performance test to ensure your air conditioner is effectively and safely operating.

One of the benefits of how an air conditioning tune-up saves you money is the lower utility bills that result after we perform maintenance service. An air conditioner with a dirty air filter cannot efficiently or effectively cool your home, but when we clean or replace it, your utility bills will go down by 5 to 15 percent. Cleaning debris from the evaporator also improves the efficiency of your air conditioner, allowing it to cycle less frequently and consume less energy.

Cool Touch a/c preventive maintenance helps you save money by avoiding some air conditioner repairs. A dirty and poorly lubricated system is prone to malfunctions and breakdowns. Dirty coils may cause the system to overheat, resulting in a costly repair. Low refrigerant levels can lead to a lack of cool air in your home. By preventing these problems before they occur, you save money on both parts and labor costs and you can avoid the hassle of dealing with emergency repair services or a broken down AC unit on the hottest day of the year.

Well-maintained air conditioners save money by lasting longer. The average lifespan of an air conditioning system is 10 to 15 years, after which they tend to need frequent repairs and replacement parts. By scheduling regular tune-ups for your AC unit, you can protect your investment and maximize its lifespan.

At Cool Touch Air Conditioning and Heating, we offer air conditioning tune-ups to save you money in your Phoenix,AZ home. Our complete line of air conditioning and heating services includes heating and air conditioning tune-ups, repairs and installation of new systems. We have built a strong reputation throughout the Phoenix and the entire east and west valley communities for providing punctual, trustworthy and affordable heating and air conditioning services to save money on your utility bills. When you are looking for professional assistance to achieve an ideal level of indoor comfort, our team at Cool Touch is ready to assist you.

Why A/C Tune Ups Decrease Air Conditioner Repairs

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

As a desert community, Phoenix routinely bakes under the summer sun, and an air conditioning unit is far more necessity than luxury when the temperature rises. An AC tune-up can minimize AC repairs, keeping your system functioning at the height of a heat wave and ensuring that you never have to go without a cool comfortable environment.

Many air conditioning problems can be traced to comparatively small sources, sources that can be spotted and eliminated with regular maintenance. For example, dust build up on the blower or other key components can affect the flow of air, as can blockage within the system. If there are cracks or leaks in the ductwork, they can leach cool air out, reducing the effectiveness of your unit. In cases where refrigerant has leaked out, you’ll notice the AC working harder to cool your house, and ice may appear on the evaporator coil and/or refrigerant suction line.

All of these can affect both the efficiency of your air conditioning unit and the cost to run it. Dust, wear and tear, and routine problems force your system to work harder, which takes more energy and raises your monthly bills. If left unattended, those small problems have a way of becoming larger ones, resulting in big servicing bills and perhaps even a loss of your air conditioner until it can be fixed.

You can help prevent this by regularly changing your AC filters and keeping the outside of your unit clear of leaves and debris. You can also contact a certified air conditioning service to perform periodic maintenance on the unit. They can spot large problems while they’re still comparatively small, as well as cleaning dirty components and recharging refrigerant if necessary. Those little steps can translate into big savings, avoiding repair bills and keeping your air conditioning unit up and running throughout the year.

With many years of experience, and being rated as an A+ member of the Phoenix BBB, Cool Touch is the name to trust with your AC repair in Phoenix, AZ. We service the entire Phoenix area and can minimize AC repairs so you don’t have to worry when the temperature starts to climb. Contact us today and set up a consultation. 623-584-3762

Save on Air Condition Repairs in Phoenix

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

We all know that you can pay your auto mechanic a little now for routine service, or pay them a lot later for a major AC repair. The same idea holds true for your air conditioner or heat pump. If you don’t service your air conditioner regularly, you’ll find yourself uncomfortable and broke.

An air conditioner is a very tough piece of equipment. It is engineered to withstand all sorts of abuse and keep on running. This is great in most cases, but it can lead to complacency about maintenance. Like a car, air conditioners need regular tune-ups to run properly.

Without regular maintenance, an air conditioner loses about 5% of it’s original efficiency for each year of operation. This means that the 12 SEER unit that you bought just a few years ago may be functioning like a 9 SEER unit ! The good news is that you can recover most of that lost efficiency through regular maintenance. Studies show that with regular tune-ups a unit will maintain up to 95% of it’s original efficiency. This means that the cost of an annual tune-up is recovered very quickly in savings on your monthly electric bill and reduced repair costs. A properly serviced air conditioner will also do a better job of dehumidifying your home.

Many local air conditioning companies offer special prices at this time of the year. Some even offer annual service programs that ensure that you will be reminded of the need to service the unit at the beginning of the cooling and heating seasons.

The service check should include cleaning the condensing unit coils, checking the amp draw of the compressor, oiling the fan motors, checking that belts are well adjusted, and checking the system operating pressures and temperatures against the manufacturer’s specifications. One of the most important items to check is the coolant level in the air conditioner. A system that is only 10% low on coolant will cost about 20% more to operate! If your unit is low on coolant, and more must be added, there are new laws governing its use. Freon is a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) that will damage the Earths protective ozone layer if released into the atmosphere. The laws governing CFC’s now do not allow your air conditioner contractor to add Freon to a leaky system. They are first required to find and fix the leak in the system.

There are some things in addition to yearly tune-ups that you can do to help ensure a high level of comfort and proper system operation. First, buy good filters and change them regularly. Next, keep bushes and other materials away from the outside unit of your air conditioner. Another good idea is to avoid closing supply air outlets in your house. In almost all cases, closing supply outlets is harmful to the operation of the overall system.

All equipment should receive routine maintenance. Complicated equipment like today’s air conditioners benefit in many ways from annual service. They recover much of their lost efficiency, they are less likely to suffer a major break down, they have a longer life span, they increase your comfort, and they operate for less money.
For questions or to have your air conditioning unit serviced contact Cool Touch. One of our professional techs will come out and thoroughly check your system to make sure it’s running properly. You don’t want to experience a break down now that the Phoenix summer heat is here!
